A Conference Focused on Aviation Safety Programs

A FAA-sponsored conference focused on Voluntary Aviation Safety Programs will be held on May 27-29, 2008 in San Diego, California. The conference will include presentations and selected workshops on the Advanced Qualification Program (AQP), Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program (VDRP), Internal Evaluation Program (IEP), Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS), Line Operations Audit Program (LOSA), Flight Operational Quality Assurance Program (FOQA), and the Runway Incursion Information Evaluation Program (RIIEP), as well as on the integration of such programs into an operator's Safety Management System (SMS) and the sharing of voluntary safety information from such programs between operators and with the FAA.
This conference will build upon the highly successful April 2006 conference in Denver and the October 2004 conference in San Diego on these same topics. This conference is appropriate for aviation professionals who are involved with: Safety, Human Factors, Maintenance, Management, Operations, or aviation related Labor Associations. It will provide a forum to facilitate learning and information sharing with air carriers and repair stations that have, or plan to have, one or more of these voluntary aviation safety programs.
Keynote speakers include:
- John M. Allen, FAA Deputy Director, Flight Standards Service and Air Force Brigadier General - Responsible for leadership of the FAA's Flight Standards Service for the regulation and certification of airmen, aircraft-operating enterprises, and the operation of aircraft. At the Air Force, he is responsible for assisting in translating current and future Air Force acquisition requirements, both active and reserve into balanced and integrated programs. - Robert Sumwalt, NTSB Vice Chairman - Long-time aviation safety advocate with extensive experience as a commercial airline pilot, accident investigator, and aviation safety researcher. He co-authored a book about aircraft accidents (http://www.amazon.com/Aircraft-Accident-Analysis-Final-Reports/dp/product-description/0071351493) and is author of numerous aviation safety articles, training texts, and manuals on aircraft operations, human factors, aircraft accident investigation, and airline policies and procedures. - John Nance - Boeing 737 Captain for Alaska Airlines and a decorated Air Force pilot veteran of Vietnam and Operations Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF Reserve, involved with Air Force human factors flight safety education. He is the Air Analyst for ABC Television Network and Aviation Editor for Good Morning America. He is also an aviation novelist and authored 17 major books, five non-fiction. Early-Bird registration is available through April 25, 2008 at the rate of $75 per attendee. After that date, registration is USD $90 per attendee. (U.S. government employees pay USD $50 per attendee, payment not required until arrival.) The conference will be at the Omni San Diego Hotel with a special room rate for singles or doubles of USD $139 when reserved by April 25, 2008 under the "2008 FAA Shared Vision Conference" room block.
